Farming, "The Greatest Challenge"
Saturday, February 24, 2007
Every day I tell myself I'm the luckiest man in the world and you know what? I'm right! Not only do I have the greatest family in the world but every day I get to go to work for farmers. What could be better than that? Farming is the greatest challenge on this planet and growing potatoes is at the very top of the list. Two of the best potato growers I get to work for are from the Upper Penninsula of Michigan. Dan Verbrigghe and Tony Van Damme from Rock are on the job 24-7 producing some of the best Russet potatoes grown in this country. It would take a day to explain everything they go through from growing their crops to harvest and storage, grading, packaging and loading the trucks that come in the middle of the night. They do it all from start to finish and trust me to sell their crop at a good return so that they can do it all over again the next year.
When you see Matt Kenseth racing, you'll see the name DeWalt on his car and I'm sure he feels pretty lucky about that. When you see the #1 Biggins car you'll see the names Verbrigghe Potato Farms and T & J Van Damme Farms on the side. That's two of the reasons I feel that I'm the luckiest man in the world.
